Etched glass beer mugs, a simple diy that are perfect gift ideas.
Hi, friends! The last week of school pretty much whipped my booty. I am so exhausted. Not only last week of school activities, baseball rain make up games, but soccer tryouts (Need I say more? If you are a soccer mom, you get it!). I’m thrilled that we are done and I am hoping for a huge reprieve for the summer.
We asked you last month what you wanted to see our blogger team work with for this month’s Create with Me Challenge. You chose a Dollar Store item. I love that! Dollar Store finds are the best things to try your hand crafting. Especially if you are trying a new medium, if you mess up, you aren’t out a lot! You just grab another and give it another try.
“My favorite things at Dollar Stores to look for are glassware, baskets, floral stems, and seasonal items.”
I love today’s project because it’s so easy and literally can be done in 10 minutes. If you haven’t used etching cream before, you will want to give it a try. It’s an easy way to make any glass piece a unique statement. I picked up these two heavy-duty beer mugs for a $1 a piece. Honestly, they are nicer than some we registered for, no joke! Etching cream used to scare me for some reason, but I’ve found it a piece of cake to work with, so I urge you to give it a try. I have a whole list of things I plan on etching when I get the time! 🙂

How to Make Etched Glass Beer Mugs
{This post contains affiliate links, see full disclosure here.}
To start this project, grab your favorite glasses and pick up some Armour Etch. I got mine on Amazon. Next, you will choose a repositionable adhesive stencil. You can tape one on, but adhesive ones work a little better for a glass item that isn’t flat. What I really wanted was a repositionable mustache stencil. I looked high and low, but couldn’t find one, so if anyone finds out where I can get one, please let me know! How cute would that be? Instead, I went with one that would be great for a couple’s gift, Mr. and Mrs. Maybe a cute engagement gift or just the Mr. for upcoming Father’s Day. On the same stencil were a couple of other cute ones which would make great coffee mugs!
Even with the adhesive stencil, I used painter’s tape so I wouldn’t get any on the rest of the glass. Make sure to coat it on pretty heavy and I leave it on for about 5 minutes. Wash off with water and dry. That’s it!
Use your new mugs for your next backyard BBQ or picnic.
If you are looking for other ideas, here’s my first project with etching cream.

My first attempt at etching cream failed miserably haha. I need to try again though because how cute are these beer mugs! You could may a lot of money for a gift like that premade at the store!

Etching cream used to intimidate me, too, but it’s really quite easy to use! You can really stock up on glassware to etch from the dollar store – great idea & I love how your mugs turned out!
