Updated Plant Stand with Chalk Paint

Today I'm showing you how I updated a wood plant stand with chalk paint to give it a whole new look!

I'm always looking for ways to display my houseplants.  Last week, I saw this wood plant stand at a consignment store and knew it would make a great DIY project.  Though the color of the wood was beautiful, I decided that it would fit in better with my current furniture if I painted it white.

When using chalk paint, you do not have to prime or paint your piece.  I started by cleaning it with a product called TSP (LINK). After cleaning, I used a favorite paint of mine, Rust-Oleum Chalked in Linen White (LINK). Two coats of paint and it was ready to seal.  To seal it, I used this Valspar Clear Sealing Wax (LINK). By sealing it, it will give it a bit of a shine and protect it from occasional water spills when watering my plants.

I hope you liked how it turned out!  I love versatile pieces like this because they can be used in so many places within my home.  Next time you are out, be sure to keep your eyes out for similar pieces. You can see the whole makeover on video over on my Instagram (LINK).

XO,

  1. The chalk paint is all the new craze and well you’ve done an excellent job with it. To say that I am inspired to paint all my furniture with chalk now would be an understatement. Jokes aside, love this one! Thanks for sharing.

Amy, I did kind of wince when I saw the beautiful wood of that plant stand and you said you were going to paint it! But I do like it painted white, too. It looks especially nice with the vine you have on it trailing down. Nice job.
