Hot Chocolate Station for a Snow Themed Party

My daughter, Olivia, turned 12 at the end of December.  Because her birthday is close to Christmas, she doesn't usually get a friend's birthday party.  We always celebrate as a family while enjoying our holiday break in Arizona.  This year, I promised her a birthday party, so she was super excited to get in on the planning of the event.  Since the weather is iffy in Cincinnati, we decided to embrace the cold and possible snow and do a snow themed party.  I'm sharing all the details today on the cute hot chocolate station I put together and all the little goodies we had for her friends.

The main event was snow tubing.  A local place has skiing and tubing and we made a group reservation for the evening. We went as a family last year and even our youngest enjoyed it.  It truly was a great activity to get the girls out and enjoying themselves and then we followed up back at our house with the food, gifts, and a movie for the sleepover.

Thank you to Walnut Hollow for providing this awesome wood slice which made a nifty sign for our Hot Chocolate Station.  All I did was paint it with chalkboard paint.  It will be great to reuse for any other future parties or events.

Our hot chocolate bar had mason jars of chocolate chips, white chocolate chips, crushed peppermint, and marshmallows. In addition, a large jar of hot chocolate with a scoop and a teapot of hot water on a galvanized tray were all gathered together to make it easy to make your own concoction. Word to the wise, we found out the hard way that those darling copper mule mugs must only be intended for cold drinks.  They heated up with the hot chocolate and were hard to handle, so we swapped them out for white ceramic mugs instead!

You have to have some fun little snacks to go with hot chocolate, so these snow-themed munchies were perfect!

We made these yummy caramel and sea salt spoons to use in mixing the hot chocolate.  This is super easy.  All you need is a bag of caramels, sea salt, and wax paper.  I dipped each spoon in melted caramel and sprinkled on sea salt.  Let stand to cool on a sheet of wax paper.
