Closet Makeover

Hi, friends!  One of the organizational projects I recently undertook was my master closet.  I am fortunate enough to have a walk-in closet, but if I don't constantly stay on top of it, it quickly gets out of control. I wish I could say that it's all mine, but unfortunately, I have to share it with my hubby.  Do I sound like a bitter 2-year-old who doesn't like to share?  Probably 🙂

My closet has built-in shelving and drawers which I love.  I, however, was not utilizing the space to the best of its ability.

Here are some pictures of the frightening mess that had overtaken my space.  I did the best at editing the photos as I could.  It's really difficult photographing this space which gets absolutely no natural light!!

I've definitely seen worse, but where as I normal enjoy going into my closet and shopping for my outfits, I had begun to dread opening that door every day.  When one pile begins, it gets easier to just leave it and add to it.  My goal in this project was to get rid of the excess and organize in a more efficient way what was left.

My first step was jewelry.  I had organized it previously with these great display pieces so that I could visually see everything.  You can read more about that project, HERE.  My problem now was I had accumulated way too much and most of it I was no longer wearing.  Since I have begun to sell Stella & Dot, I primarily wear their pieces pretty exclusively.  I definitely needed to reorganize and donate the no longer worn pieces.

When left with my favorite pieces, I can actually see it all and make better choices!

For the shelving, I reworked it, got rid of clothes not worn last season and labeled my shelves.  If you need advice on how to decide on what to keep or give away, I wrote a whole post on that, HERE.

One of the things I decided to do was put a donation bin right in my closet.  That way if I decide one morning I don't like something, it can go right in the bin.  When it's full, it's time to take it to the donation site!

The fabric boxes on the top hold my purses and odds and ends such as my isonic jewelry cleaner.

Behind the door, I installed an over the door shoe rack to store my shoes.

I also switched my hangers to the huggable type which hold my loose-fitting blouses better than those plastic ones! Plus they look more cohesive.

I love my white valet bar which I use to plan out my outfits and ready them for the next day.

I added a stool for reaching the top shelve and I'm thinking about a rug.  Yeah or nay?

Just reorganizing and cleaning up this space made life so much easier.  It is now again a pleasant space to be in!  Now for the other half (my hubby's) side of the closet which I didn't dare show you!!  I just walk in with a blinder to the right side and bask in the glory of the fully organized and pretty left side!

I ant not wait to move into a house of my own so I can make my closet look organized. I dig that you have a spot for items to donate. I have my box in the laundry room so my kids can freely stick in items that are too small. Have a great weekend. I found you from the Blogger Perks Facebook page we are on together. Have a great day.

Thanks for stopping by Deedra! I feel like it makes a huge difference having a place for everything. I love the idea for the kids of having one in the laundry area! Thanks for sharing. 🙂
