$100 Room Challenge: Updating the Walls with a Wall Stencil

This week was all about the walls!  I decided on a unique wall treatment that would add a special flare to the entryway!

I introduced you to the concept of the $100 room challenge a couple weeks ago. You can read all about my project room here, (LINK) and see last week’s post, here (LINK). I have large goals for my small space foyer and I am hoping to get it all accomplished for just $100.

This week, I tackled the walls.  I was thinking through all the easy DIY ideas such as paint or removable wallpaper, but both ultimately were too expensive for my $100 budget.  Instead, I was able to stencil the walls with a cute Sweet Bees wall stencil from Cutting Edge Stencils (LINK)for just the cost of the stencil which was $37. The paint I used was a combination I mixed from paint I already had on hand.

Updating the Entryway with Cutting Edge Stencils

If you've never used a stencil before, it is actually quite easy!  Cutting Edge Stencils are easy to use and come with step by step instructions. They are great for DIY decorating projects: accent wall stenciling, floor tile stenciling and furniture painting. Their website has a wealth of information and inspiration for all your projects (LINK).

I am really looking at creating this space and my home into a cottage country home.  I have been studying southern homes with their layering of patterns and textures.  Bees are often associated with this design. And I just happen to really like bees, so it was perfect for this space.

I shared over on Instagram Stories the process of stenciling. Hop over there and I have a saved Highlight of all my progress so far in this space (LINK).

I mixed paint that I had leftover from previous projects to create a very subtle silver color.  Alabaster from Sherwin Williams (LINK) with Metallic Gold from DecoArt (LINK).  My goal was for the stencil to be subtle enough to make an impact but not overwhelm the space.
